Most dismissals by wicketkeepers in ODIs and Test Matches
Imagine the best wicketkeepers in world just being the batters. Admit it the likes of Kumar Sangakkara, Adam Gilchrist and Mark Boucher would never have earned the same reputation had they only gone for batting. Wicket-keeping no doubt is one of the toughest job in cricket however the repute in case of success is even greater. A few days back it was enough to be a professional wicketkeeper to get a chance in a national squad. However the time has changed now and preference is given to the players capable of doing more than one job. Today most dismissals by wicketkeepers only matter when these are accompanied by good runs as well.
When it comes to most dismissals by wicketkeepers in all formats of game, Mark Boucher is way ahead of the rest of wicketkeepers. The South African was a specialist predator behind the stumps. Unfortunately his career came to an end after facing one of the worst cricket injuries. Mark Boucher dismissed a total of 998 batsmen either through catches or stumping. Now one can easily imagine the severity of the eye injury that forced him for retirement. Retiring just two wickets short of his remarkable 1000 dismissals feat would have been really painful but not much than the injury he had. Nevertheless, the legendary keeper will be remembered for a long time for what he has done already. In fact his record of most dismissals by wicketkeepers itself will keep his name eternally memorized.
The list is then followed by the Aussie great, Adam Gilchrist. One of the most destructive batsmen in either format was as quick as a cheetah behind the wickets. One of the best openers in cricket history will always be missed by Cricket Australia as they have not yet find a perfect wicketkeeper batsman that could fit in a team like the caliber of Australia. Interestingly, in top 10 list of wicketkeepers with most dismissals, only MS Dhoni and Kamran Akmal are active players. The Indian ODI and T20 skipper stands third in the list however is still long way behind Boucher’s record. With a difference of almost 200 dismissals between first and third ranked wicketkeeper, it appears much tough for Dhoni to catch him up. Full list of most dismissals by wicketkeepers in all cricket goes as under.
