Battles win wars, topple thrones, and consequently redraw borders. Every age of human history has experienced wars that have been instrumental in shaping the future. Wars inspire the spread of culture, civilization, and religious grasp. They introduce weapons, tactics, and leaders who dominate future conflicts. Some wars have even been influential for the impact of their propaganda on public opinion.

10. Napoleonic Wars

The Napoleonic Wars were a series of wars declared against Napoleon’s formidable French Empire by opposing coalitions. They came as a continuation of the wars sparked by the French Revolution of 1789. They revolutionized European armies and played out on an unexpected scale. It was chiefly due to the application of modern mass conscription. French power rose quickly as Napoleon’s armies invaded much of Europe. But they collapsed rapidly after France’s disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812. Napoleon’s empire finally suffered complete military defeat. Consequently resulting in the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in France and the creation of the Concert of Europe. But war of such scale deserves a spot among the Top 10 Historical Wars of All Time.

The Mongol Empire was a great empire during the 13th and 14th centuries. Beginning in the Central Asian steppes, it had eventually stretched from Eastern Europe to the Sea of Japan. It covered Siberia in the north and then extended southward into Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East. It is usually referred to as the largest contiguous empire in the history of the world. At its greatest extent it spanned a staggering 6,000 mi (9,700 km). It had covered an area of 33,000,000 km2 (12,700,000 sq mi). Much as 22% of the Earth’s total land area, and held sway over a population of 100 million.

Also popular as the Second-Indochina War, this is an important addition among the Top 10 Historical Wars of All Time. It was the period of American involvement in Vietnam made it so big. The American War was basically a sequel to the First Indochina War, fought between North Vietnam. China and other communist allies and South Vietnam supported. Over a million civilians were killed adding the number to the hundreds of thousands participants in the war.

7.  Thirty Year’s War

One of the bloodiest wars on religion, this is a massive name in our list of Top 10 Historical Wars of All Time. Much as the name suggests itself, it was a war that lasted over three decades. Thirty Year’s War was one of the longest and the most destructive conflicts in the European history. Historians have still not decided on the fact as to what started the fighting. Rather there seem to be many parallel reasons that fueled the war overtime. It grew as a religious war at first, but then developed into a continuation of the Bourbon-Habsburg rivalry. It stood for the European political destruction with the death toll of well above 5 million people.

The Empire of Japan literally means the empire. The world power that had existed from the Meiji Restoration that happened on 3rd January 1868. It existed to the enactment of the post World War II Constitution of Japan on 3rd May 1947. Only after suffering a couple defeats and then atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended it. The Empire of Japan surrendered to the Allies on the 2nd of September, 1945. The American involvement rather gave birth to a new constitution. It came in existence from 3rd May, 1947 officially dissolving the Empire which had already been the reason of over 20 million deaths. No wonder it makes the list of Top 10 Historical Wars of All Time.

5. American Civil War

The American Civil War was essentially a war fought between the ‘North’ or the ‘Union’ and the South or the ‘Confederacy’. It existed by the secession of several southern slave states. It’s name also became popular as the War Between the States or simply just the Civil War. The war had its roots set on issues of slavery. The extensions of it reached into the western territories of America. More than 800,000 people were the victims in the war, making it an addition to the Top 10 Historical Wars of All Time.

The Qing Dynasty also known as the Manchu Dynasty, was the last dynasty of China. It ruled from 1644 to 1912. It came into power after the Ming Dynasty and then followed Republic of China. The dynasty came in existence by the Manchu clan Aisin Gioro in modern northeast China. Beginning in 1644 it expanded into China proper and its surrounding territories, further establishing the Empire of the Great Qing. Complete pacification of China was complete around 1683 under the Kangxi Emperor.

3. Conquests of Timur-e-Lang

Timur was in his lifetime a controversial figure, and he remains so today. He sought to restore the Mongol Empire.  Yet his heaviest blow was against the Islamized Tatar Golden Horde. He was more at home in an urban environment rather than on the steppe. He styled himself a ghazi while operating wars that severely affected some Muslim states, including the Ottoman Empire. A great patron of the arts, his campaigns also triggered vast destruction.

2. World War I

World War I was one of the bloodiest global wars in the history of man-kind. It began in the summer of 1914 and lasted until November 1918. It involved all of the world’s giant powers, assembled in two opposing alliances: the Allies and the Central Powers. More than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, had mobilized. More than 9 million combatants were the victims, largely because of great technological advances in firepower without advances in mobility. Victory of Britain, France and Russia over Germany, Italy, Austria and Hungary was the result. The League of Nations came in existence after the First World War. But it failed to ensure world peace and eventually World War II happened.

World War II, or the Second World War was a global war that was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945. The war involved most of the world’s nations, including all of the great powers. Two opposing military alliances, the Allies and the Axis took place. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million military personnel mobilized. In a state of “total war,” the main participants placed their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort. Second World War erased the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by significant events involving the mass death of civilians, it included the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare. It was the deadliest conflict in human history, resulting in 50 million to over 70 million fatalities.
Everybody should have one simple right the right to live. But sometimes people will deny innocent people these rights and murder them(genocides,ruthless dictators,civil wars,mass executions etc). Human life is precious, and we must stop practicing wars.
