Just like in the most man of series list, most man of match awards list is also ruled by the god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar. In fact a player which can manage to win the maximum number of man of series awards can easily collect most man of match awards as well. Making things easier, I assert once again that getting nominated as the player of day is a lot easier than of a series. The rule is simple even non-consistent performers can be lucky enough to give a match winning performance on a given day. However consistency is the essence for getting the player of series recognition.
Interestingly Sachin Tendulkar’s most player of series awards have come in ODI games. The former opening batsman has a total of 62 ODI man of match awards way ahead of any other player in the list. On the other hand Jacques Kallis who is at third place has 23 player of match awards in tests – the most for any player. Sachin Tendulkar played only a single T20 international match so he has no player of the match award for a T20 event. On the other hand Sanath Jayasuriya, the second placer has won 6 T20 man of match awards. The reasons Jayasuriya is known as the hard hitting batsman is clearly evident form his man of match awards. With a total of 58 awards won, Jayasuriya stands with only 4 of them won in a test game.
The full list of most man of match awards is apparently dominated by the players with most series awards. However a dominant unusual entry in the list is of Shahid Afridi. The Pakistani hard hitter has a total of 43 man of match awards won and considering the endurance he can certainly add in his tally.
