The messages of support for Leo Messi have been rolling in lately. Particularly so since the Argentine superstar announced his retirement from the national team. Messi’s Barcelona clubmate and striker partner, Neymar, is the latest big name to convey his feelings.

He has nearly been a month away from the media’s focus (though still active on social media). But Neymar Jr has spoken again to the press now. Back in his native Brazil to attend an event held at his old high school, Neymar defended the Argentinian forward’s decision. He supported his calling it a day following defeat in the Copa America final.
He had a heartfelt message of support for Leo Messi. He also showed his happiness at renewing his own Barça contract.
He said, in reference to the sentence received by Messi in the tax fraud case: “Messi is not only my friend, he is also my idol, and I will always support him. I can imagine what he is going through.”
He provided his opinion on Leo’s decision to quit international football: “I respect his decisions. But football, without Leo, is not football. It is very difficult to conceive of football without Leo.
For those who like football, it is impossible to not like what Messi does for Barça and his national team.”
On an individual level, the Brazilian made his very first public comments about his new Barça deal: “I am very happy. It is true that there were various proposals, but my wish has always been to stay.”
It had been reported that PSG were keenly interested in Neymar before he confirmed his renewal at Camp Nou.
The player is enjoying the last days of his summer holiday before joining the Brazilian team for the Olympic Games in Rio.
