Paris Saint-Germain were heavily linked with Barcelona’s No.11. The 24-year-old had a €190m buy-out clause in his contract. But the Ligue 1 champions were absolutely ready to be willing to pay the fee.

The Paris based club have now lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United. They are likely to make a marquee signing, although the Brazilian star Neymar is no longer a viable option it seems.

There were also rumours that Real Madrid had been fondly monitoring the situation of the Barcelona forward.

But Neymar has put all speculation to bed by signing the new contract. At Barcelona he will earn €25m per season after tax, which is stunningly three million more than what Lionel Messi is currently earning.

Should PSG or any other team assume they can still tempt Neymar to their club, then they will have to activate his latest buy-out clause of €200m. However, that figure increases as the Brazil international goals even further into his contract.

In the second year, the buy-out clause increases from €200m to €225m.

In the third year, that figure then increases by another €25m again to €250m.

With these figures, it is unlikely that any team will be sincerely willing to make a move for Neymar in the future. Neymar has also fondly expressed on numerous occasions that he is happy at Barcelona and loves playing for the prestigious club.
