The Barcelona forward Neymar has been left out of Brazil’ team for the Copa América. it will be played in the United States next month.

Brazil’s coach, Dunga, accepted Barcelona’s ardent request. They pleaded to use the striker either at the Copa América or at the Rio Olympics in August. Dunga will select him only for the latter.

The Copa America Centenario is a special edition of the tournament. It is to be played at sites during June in the United States. It will take place outside of South America for the first time. In August Brazil are hosting the Olympics event. Interestingly, they have never won a gold medal there.

Neymar is not be available in the team. But his Barcelona teammates Dani Alves and Rafinha were chosen for the Copa squad. Other names in the squad include Hulk, Douglas Costa, Casemiro, Coutinho, Willian and Gustavo.

Dunga’s squad, named on Thursday, includes total seven players under 23. All of them will also be qualified for the Rio games. Two British-based players have been selected. they are Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and the Chelsea midfielder Willian.

Dunga said: “We are bringing a competitive team for an important tournament.”

Brazil are in Group B with Ecuador, Haiti and Peru. They start their campaign on 4 June against Ecuador in Pasadena, California. The competition is popularly celebrating its centenary. It will take place for the first time outside South America.
