Neymar and Messi have formed a great friendship over the years

The Brazil international made the switch to the Camp Nou from Santos back in June 2013. The transfer deal estimated to be in the stunning region of £65million.

Neymar arrived with a reputation as one of football’s most promising young players. The popular now 24-year-old maestro quickly developed into an absolutely pivotal player for the Spanish outfit.

However, Neymar has confessed it was not all plain sailing. He had spent quite some time to adapt to his new surroundings. His fellow Brazilian Dani Alves played a key role.

‘I was afraid when I saw Messi and the others before my first Barcelona game (a friendly against Lechia Gdansk),’ Neymar told TV Globo.

‘I got into the dressing room and Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique and Dani Alves were all there. These guys were my idols.

‘It was almost as if I was playing on the Playstation. It was very difficult in the beginning.

‘Dani Alves was fundamental for me when I came to Barcelona to help me adapt and become what I am now. I have a lot of time for him and for what he did for me at Barcelona.’

Meanwhile, the fear factor did rather little to hamper Neymar’s performances on the field. He has won two La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups and a Champions League in his three seasons in Spain.
