The unwanted record of most consecutive defeats in Test cricket history belongs to Bangladesh. The side lost a total of 21 successive test matches from 2001 to 2004. Though Bangladesh cricket team is not a bad team at all especially at home they have beaten some of the best teams in the world. However when luck is no in your favor you suffer loss even from the sides like Zimbabwe. That has actually been the case with Bangladesh in fact. The side’s losing streak started with a defeat to Zimbabwe by 8 wickets in 2001 and the last game they lost before the streak finally came to an end was also against the same Zimbabwe side in 2004. Where they lost by 183 runs at Harare.
Not to forget, Zimbabwe cricket team itself is right behind Bangladesh in most consecutive defeats in Tests. The side that has been losing its test nation status occasionally, has never been able to keep steady feet in test format. However the number of games lost by them are a lot less than those of Bangladesh. Zimbabwe stands second in most consecutive defeats in tests with 11 losses. Some of them are even the biggest margin victories for the opposition as well. Their unfortunate reign of losing remained from 2001 to 2003. At third place comes again Bangladesh cricket team with 9 consecutive matches lost. Bangladesh is then followed by South Africa with 8 successive defeats in tests.
Surprisingly Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the only two teams who have not lost more than five test matches successively. One major reason for this could be that both these sides do not get enough overseas tours to play. And while at the home turf facing a whitewash is a rare phenomenon. Pakistan however lacks any type of international cricket at their home. But the side has adopted to the UAE conditions very well. UAE has been reserved as the home venue for Pakistan cricket since the terror attacks on Sri Lankan team in 2009. The similar situation is now in front of Bangladesh. Foreign teams are showing their reluctance concerning the security reasons to play in Bangladesh as well.
