Javed Afridi seeks honorary citizenship for Darren Sammy
Peshawar Zalmi owner and Pakistan cricket team all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s brother Javed Afridi has been reported to have requested the honorary citizenship for Darren Sammy. The West Indian T20 captain Darren Sammy is one of the most important foreigner players to be included in Javed Afridi’s Pakistan Super League side, Peshawar Zalmi. The t20 world cup winning side’s skipper is one of the most loved cricketer in world and while playing for Peshawar Zalmi, his enthusiasm in the very first edition of PSL has made him one of the most favorite of Pakistani nation as well.
In a letter addressed to Pakistan Prime Minister Mamnoon Hussian, Afridi on Tuesday told that Sammy has offered his full support for the restoration of International cricket in Pakistan.
“Mr. Darren Sammy is one of the most affable, popular and renowned Cricketer worldwide. He is also in love with Pakistan and its Cricket,” Javed Afridi wrote in the letter to the president.
“He has offered his complete support to restore the international Cricket in Pakistan, when other foreign players are absolutely averse to visiting Pakistan,” he stated. Furthermore Javed Afridi coveted the promotion of Pakistan’s soft image through the award of honorary citizenship for Darren Sammy.
“We are extremely confident that this small gesture will be a big leap forward in projecting a soft image of Pakistan at zero expense of the national exchequer, and thwarting the nefarious designs of our enemies who are sparing no opportunity to defame Pakistan’s image internationally.”
In fact earlier Javed Afridi’s request of the honorary citizenship for Darren Sammy was reported to have been accepted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Parvez Khatak. Interestingly Darren Sammy who loves to address the Pakistani nation in the native language ‘Pashto’ also thanked CM KPK on the grant of honorary citizenship. However as it turned out, the twitter account referred to be CM KPK has reported to be a fake one and there has not been any progress on Javed Afridi’s request yet.
