Top 10 Players with highest runs from boundaries in an ODI game
Often you must have heard the phrase ‘it’s raining fours and sixes’ in cricket. Well certainly these words are made for the games we are going to discuss today. Although it is solely the player’s ability, match does not have to do anything with it but still it will be called a match with highest runs from boundaries. Or else you can say the players who scored highest runs from boundaries in a single innings. As we are talking about One Day International matches so add the word ODI as well. Obviously the innings having most number of runs come through fours and sixes will be some of the biggest innings. More a batsman hits the boundaries the more he gets runs.
Breaking the suspense, Rohit Sharma holds the record for highest runs from boundaries in an ODI match. As said earlier the feat came for him in the highest individual score in ODI history. During his mammoth knock of 264 against Sri Lanka 2 years ago Rohit Sharma cored a total of 42 boundaries including 33 fours and 9 sixes. The combined score of these boundaries reaches up to 186 – a world record till this date. Now if any batsmen wants to go for the tough-to-get feat he surely has to score a double hundred first. Although it is not an impossible to break record because there are many batsmen capable of doing the unthinkable in cricket.
The list then gets the name of Martin Guptill, another double centurion in ODI history who grabbed the most runs through boundaries in his 237* runs knock during the world cup 2015. Interestingly Shane Watson’s 185* inning is the only single hundred inning in top five of the list. Not to forget that this innings was the second fastest 150 ever in ODI history. Chris Gayle, Virendar Sehwag, AB de Villiers, Herschel Gibbs all join the list with their raw hitting power. Follow the full list of players with highest runs from boundaries hereunder.
