Ahmed Shahzad has been appointed as the new skipper for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa side after Younis Khan’s refusal to participate in the tournament following controversial umpiring. The veteran test batsman for Pakistan abandoned Pakistan Cup earlier after being sanctioned with a 100% match fee for criticizing the umpiring levels in the event. However realizing the blunder he committed earlier, Younas is reported to have apologized for his decision to quit the ongoing Pakistan Cup and is now ready to lead Khyber Pakhtunkhwa again.

“Younis Khan made telephonic contact with chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan today,” the PCB said in a statement. “He felt sorry for the incident that happened during the ongoing Pakistan Cup in Faisalabad. He appraised the Chairman about his willingness to participate in the remainder of the tournament.”

Meanwhile reflecting on the incident, Ahmad Shahzad has emphasized that whatever happened was not intentional rather a reaction on his dismissal. Also the 24 year old has taken the responsibility to bear the whole expenses on the replacement of the damaged glass in Iqbal Stadium.

This is not the first time that the Pakistani opening batsman has indulged himself into a controversy. Ahmed was involved in some religious comments on Tillakaratne Dilshan during the T20 World Cup 2014. Similarly, earlier this year the player was fined for 30 per cent of his match fee after being involved in ‘inappropriate and deliberate physical contact’ towards fast bowler Wahab Riaz during the Pakistan Super League.
